14th Annual Floating Lights Parade

Elephant Butte Lake's most popular and longest running winter event, the Floating Lights Parade, will be held again this year on Saturday, December 13th, 2008. Crew members decorate boats with thousands of lights and other festive decorations to create a brilliant display. Spectators enjoy the scene and vote for their favorite vessel. The parade can be seen from the beaches near the main State Park entrance.

Dedication of CCC Worker Statue
A statue commemorating the effort of CCC workers was dedicated October 18th, 2008 at the historic Dam Site Recreation Area. Enrollees and family of Enrollees spoke of the lasting positive effect of serving in the CCC.
Present or represented at the ceremony was Governor Bill Richardson (plaque inscription), Jeff Bingaman (represented by spokesperson Greg Bloom), Steve Pearce, Heather Wilson, John Arthur Smith, Senator Lee Rawson (present), Dianne Hamilton (present), and other distinguished guests.
Much of the work performed by the CCC is still enjoyed by visitors today. Accomplishments included impressive stonework, construction of buildings, and vast landscaping. Much of their work can be seen at the Historic Dam Site Recreation Area.

Elephant Man Triathlon

The second annual Elephant Man Triathlon will be held Sunday, September 28th with the first wave beginning at 8am. The triathlon is a USAT (USA Triathlon) sanctioned event and includes a 1 mile swim, 26.5 mile bike loop, and 6-mile run through various terrains in the Elephant Butte area. The first annual Elephant Man Triathlon was a successful event with around 133 participants from NM, AZ, TX, and even GA. The 2008 triathlon promises to be an equally challenging and unique event.

New Mexico Shootout
Last year's shootout was one of the most successful golf tournaments in the history of New Mexico. The 2008 NM Shootout is sure to be an event you don't want to miss. Defending champions Nancy Lopez and Rosie Jones will take on Alena Sharp and Kristi Albers for the title of New Mexico Shootout Champions. The shootout is a benefit for the Sierra Vista hospital and will be held at the Sierra Del Rio golf course. Events begin at 9am with the shootout at 12pm on Friday, September 5th.
